〜がしい~ga hoshii

"want (a thing)" — desiring a noun. The noun counterpart of 〜たい.

What it means

くるまが欲しい (I want a car)
時間じかんが欲しい (I want time)

want

don't want

wanted

didn't want

Examples — real lines from the library

I want something cute. (affirmative)
I don't want a little brother either. (negative)
I think I want one. (softened)

Watch out

欲しい (thing) vs 〜たい (action). みず欲しい (I want water) vs みずたい (I want to drink water).
Your own desire only. For someone else → 欲しがっている, and the particle shifts が → : くるま欲しがっている (they want a car).
Particle は in negatives / contrast: いもうとほしくない.
