Best Japanese podcasts for intermediate learners

Once beginner shows feel easy, you need faster, more natural Japanese on richer topics. Here are the best intermediate podcasts (about N3–N2) and how to use them.

Intermediate listening means letting go of understanding every word. Choose topics you enjoy, accept some ambiguity, and mine the sentences that catch your ear.

Nihongo con Teppei N3

The faster, more natural sibling of the beginner series — everyday musings at close to real speed.

YUYU no Nihongo Podcast N3

Relaxed, natural Japanese on culture and daily life, a favourite with intermediate learners.

Sayuri Saying N3

Thoughtful monologues at a natural pace, with clear delivery that rewards focused listening.

Nihongo SWiTCH N3–N2

Conversational Japanese on trends and culture — natural speed with clear articulation.

Bilingual News N2+

Two hosts riff on world news in fast, natural Japanese (with English) — challenging, and great for stretching your ear.

How to use them

Don’t chase 100% comprehension. Listen once for the gist, then re-listen to a favourite section and mine a few useful sentences — look them up, and review them with the audio so they stick.

Turn natural speech into study material

Add these shows to Wakatta: tap any word for its reading and meaning, ask the AI to unpack a fast sentence, and review what you save — with the original audio.
